An individual may contribute up to $4,150 pretax to HSA limits each year, or $8,300 for a family, plus another $1,000 if you are at least 55 years old. Individuals may contribute up to $3,200 pretax to FSA limits per year, with an additional $500 in employer contributions allowed.

A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a personal savings account where you can place pre-tax dollars for eligible medical expenses. To open one, you need to be enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP). Key benefits include:

• Tax savings: Contributions can be tax-deductible, and qualified withdrawals are tax-free.
• Rollover: Funds do not expire; unused balances can carry over from year to year.
• Portability: The account stays with you, even if you switch jobs.
• Investment potential: Many HSA providers allow unused funds to be invested for long-term growth.

A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) also lets you put pre-tax money aside for eligible expenses, similar to an HSA, but with a few important differences:

• Employer-owned: FSAs are connected to your job; if you leave, the account does not move with you.
• Use-it-or-lose-it rule: Most FSAs require funds to be used within the plan year, though some include a grace period or permit a small rollover.
• Immediate access: Unlike HSAs, FSAs usually make your full annual election amount available at the start of the plan year.

To qualify an HSA or FSA purchase for bedding, however, a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is required. If a healthcare provider determines that specialty bedding, such as Rest cooling bedding, is medically necessary to treat a diagnosed condition, it may become eligible.

Rest works with Truemed for HSA/FSA qualification. To use your HSA/FSA for Rest bedding, follow these steps:

1. At checkout, select “Truemed - Pay with HSA/FSA” as the payment option.
2. You will complete a HIPAA-compliant medical survey, which takes about 60 seconds.
3. A licensed clinician reviews the survey.
4. If approved, Truemed:
   • Provides a Letter of Medical Necessity
   • Allows payment using your HSA/FSA card

Note: Select Rest bedding products are HSA / FSA eligible items, but customers can be denied in two situations:

• The reviewing clinician decides the product is not medically necessary.
• Your HSA/FSA plan administrator audits the claim and classifies the item as “primarily personal.” This is rare when an LMN is on file.

Yes. If you would rather use a regular credit card, Truemed will send instructions for submitting a reimbursement request to your HSA/FSA administrator. To reduce the risk of purchasing without reimbursement, we recommend using your HSA/FSA card directly, since some administrators may decline specific categories at their discretion. You can also contact your administrator in advance to confirm eligibility.

A Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is a written statement from a healthcare provider explaining why a product or service is needed to treat your condition.

A Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) typically includes:

• The patient’s name
• The diagnosis or medical condition
• The recommended product, such as cooling bedding
• An explanation of how the product helps manage the condition
• The provider’s signature and credentials

Why it is important:

• Without an LMN, bedding purchases are almost always denied.
• With one, you can pay with HSA/FSA funds at checkout or request reimbursement.

Tip: Many HSA/FSA administrators offer downloadable LMN forms. Ask your doctor to fill out the form and keep it available when filing claims.

The items listed in your Truemed Letter of Medical Necessity (“LMN”) may become qualified medical expenses in the same way as a doctor’s office visit or a pharmaceutical product.

Your Truemed LMN is designed to meet IRS requirements so your wellness purchase can be reimbursable. This is a common requirement for many wellness-related products, which may qualify for HSA or FSA reimbursement when a medical professional determines they are necessary for a patient’s health.

You may use your FSA/HSA dollars throughout the year. However, FSA dollars expire at the end of the year, and unused funds may not roll over into the following year. Be sure to use the rest of your FSA dollars before December 31st — spend them so you do not lose them!
